KUALA LUMPUR, 13 August 2018 – Maju Kuala Lumpur organized the first-ever cycling race on the Maju Expressway (MEX), MEX Ride 2018 yesterday. A total of 1,800 cycling enthusiasts of all ages participated in the eagerly awaited event. The race was flagged off by The President of Selangor Youth Community (SAY), Duli Yang TeramatMulia (DYTM) Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris ShahAlhaj, Raja Muda Selangor,the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, the Gold Medalist of the 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, MrAzizulhasniAwang andthe Group Managing Director of Maju Group, Mr Faiq Tan Sri Abu Sahid.
MEX Ride 2018, powered by MAJU Kuala Lumpur, was sanctioned by the Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF), with Junior Cycling Malaysia (JCM) as their Technical Partner. JCM is an initiative under MajlisSukan Negara (MSN) to identify talent and promote cycling races in Malaysia. To make this event possible, the entire 26 km stretchof Maju Expressway was closed from 6.00 am until 12.00 noon to ensure a smooth and safe ride for the participants.
The race kicked off at 6.30 am with the 45 km Team Time Trial followed by the 90 km event at 7.30 am. At 7.35 am, the 45 km and 14 km VIP races were flagged off. The sky was clear and the participants were eager and full of energy.
According to Mr. Mohd Faiq Tan Sri Abu Sahid, Group Managing Director of the Maju Group, “The purpose of the race is not only to drive home the brand presence for the Maju Kuala Lumpur development project, but the event would also be the Maju Group’s contribution as a corporate player to support the development of cycling and a healthier lifestyle in Malaysia.”
On top of that, he hoped that the youth would support future sporting events like this so that they will help foster a more active community spirit and be a part of the nation-building process.
During the race, a carnival was also held at the Seri Kembangan R&R Southbound, which was the starting and finishing point for the race. Visitors enjoyed the free Zumba sessions, free health screenings, free massage therapy, Mini Arts workshop, and face painting. The highlight of the carnival was the appearance by the local rock group, Projector Band. Other fun-filled activities included Activation by ERA FM, trampoline for kids, carnival games, and sponsor booths. To top it all off, food trucks were on standby to deliver a mouth-watering array of delicacies.
In celebration of the MEX Ride 2018, Maju Kuala Lumpurofferedenticing rewards to those who purchased property units at theirbooth on the event day itself. Apart from that, their existing 1,500 purchasers were given the opportunity to join a lucky draw with prizes such as travel vouchers, exclusive 5-star dining experience, and electrical items as a token of their support.
