Kuala Lumpur, October 2012 – A new and exciting Freestyle Festival is coming to Maju Junction this month, aptly themed: Youth Revelation. This festival aims to bring freestyle artists from all over Malaysia to showcase their talents to a city-centre stage in Maju Junction Mall.
The focus of this event is to curb the ‘lepak’ culture and instead bring all Malaysians together under one roof for three weekends of fun and exciting activities. They will be witnessing amazing freestyle icons like artists and performers from various urban scenes to create an amazing sense of unity amongst us all.
Freestyle events are the norm in Korea, Japan and Taiwan and it is time Malaysia gets its fair share of this immensely popular genre. The organisers assured that the acts and presenters are the top in the business and would upgrade the level of street culture currently prevailing here.
For three Saturdays during the month, the event will be nothing but a showcase of cool urban culture, with street dances, flash mobs, games and everything in one location.
According to Maju Holdings Group Managing Director, Mr Amro Al Khadra, the aim of the Freestyle Festival is to give back to the society, especially providing a positive outlet for youths to unleash their creativity and talents.
“Looking at some of the issues facing our youths today, we want to do something to divert all their energy into contributing to society as well.
“So what better way than organising a Freestyle Event where the youths can watch, participate and at the same time learn new skills and talents during some of the workshop events,” he said during the media announcement of the Youth Revelation Freestyle Festival month at Maju Junction Mall. Also present at the media announcement were Mr. Mokhtaza Ahmad, Head of A&R, WARNER MUSIC MALAYSIA and Encik Shahrul Reezwan, Founder of KayuhBMX.
In an effort to further reinforce its claims to give back to society, the organisers will be working closely with KL Krash Pad to provide the centre with more support by way of donating several graffiti mood boards to be auctioned off to raise funds for the centre and providing the stage at the venue for the members of the centre to perform during the Festival month.
This event will have a dynamic range of artists and performances, with artists like Katun Rahman Abdullah and Kioue from Super Sunday Street Artists, both of whom will be the judges for the graffiti contests. Livening up the stage will be flashmob favourites Katoon Network while Battle-B competitions will be conducted by Freshkids crew, one the most recognized b-boy branding in Malaysia comprising local famous crew like Gila Battle Crew and Wakaka Crew.
Warner Music artistes in the likes Awi Rafeal and Awanband will be making an appearance on 27 October while Max 24:7, the first local K-Pop band in Malaysia will also be making singing and dance performances then. Also on the same date, the 20 finalists of the Mr Ubermen Search will be making their appearance joining the flashmob presentation and making stage performances. Yoyo lovers will also get to see demonstrations from some of the top Yoyo demonstrators in the region.
This event is being sponsored by the likes of Pizza Hut, Ubermen, CamWorld and DC Shoes in which their products are to be won in many competitions to be organised. The event is also organised in collaboration with FlyFM and Warner Music. There will be lots of booths by the sponsors as well and these will mainly attract the youths to this fantastic event. We will also have FLY FM troopers for two weekends and they will be giving out goodies as well for the occasion.
This event will be a fun event for all Malaysians, not just youths, and we hope to see you all there!
