KUALA LUMPUR, 2 August 2018 – Maju Kuala Lumpur today held a Press Conference at the Maju Kuala Lumpur Sales Gallery to announce the most awaited cycling race among cycling enthusiasts, the MEX Ride 2018, which will be the first ever race on the MAJU Expressway (MEX).

MEX Ride 2018, powered by Maju Kuala Lumpur, that is set to take place on MAJU Expressway (MEX) E20 on 12 August 2018 from 6.00 am to 12.00 noon, is sanctioned by the Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF), and has Junior Cycling Malaysia (JCM) as their Technical Partner. JCM is an initiative under MajlisSukan Negara (MSN) to identify talent and promote cycling races in Malaysia.

According to Mr. Mohd Faiq Tan Sri Abu Sahid, Group Managing Director of the Maju Group, “The purpose of the race is not only to drive home the brand presence for the Maju Kuala Lumpur development project, but the event would also be the Maju Group’s contribution as a corporate player to support the development of cycling and a healthier lifestyle in Malaysia.”

On top of that, he hoped that the youth would support future sporting events like this so that they will help foster a more active community and be a part of the nation-building process.

MEX Ride 2018 is targeting around 2, 000 riders, both local and international, to participate. During the race, a carnival will be held at the Seri KembanganR&R southbound, which is the starting and finishing point for the race. This will entertain the riders’ families and supporters with celebrity appearances, a mini travel fair, carnival games, fitness programs and many more activities to encourage the importance of healthy living.  The carnival will extend to 3.00 pm on race day.

In celebration of the MEX Ride 2018, Maju Kuala Lumpur will offer rewards to those who purchase property units at Maju Kuala Lumpur during the race kit collection period and on the event day itself.

MrFarid bin Dato’ Hj Nawawi, the Chief Executive Officer of Maju Kuala Lumpurexplained that, “In collaboration with business associates and partners, Maju Kuala Lumpurwill reward purchaser who purchase on race day with enticing rewards”.

“Apart from that, to appreciate our existing 1, 500 purchasers, we will throw in lucky draws with prizes such as travel vouchers, exclusive 5-star dining experience and electrical items to be won as a token of their support.” 

MEX Ride 2018 will also be the first ever cycling event to feature the ‘Cyclist Partner Insurance’ crafted by the official insurance partner, Tokio Marine, whereby personal accident, personal liability and equipment will be covered throughout the event.

Apart from that, MEX Ride 2018 has partnered with Cycling Plus Malaysia – the official magazine partner, Selangor Youth Community (SAY) – the official community partner, Traveloka – the official travel partner, 100 Plus – the official isotonic beverage partner, Thule – the official bike rack partner, FBT- the official jersey partner, ATF – the official sports taping partner, N8 – the official energy gel partner and Biolife – the official health supplement partner, to make this event a success.

The Bukit Aman Traffic Division (RMP) has approved the traffic management plan for total road closure starting from 6.00 am up to 12pm on Sunday, 12 August 2018. Information on the road closure and alternative routes will be disseminated through various media platforms to ensure that the public is well informed. MEX Ride 2018 will be flagged of by Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, Gold Medalist 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, MrAzizulhasniAwang and The President of Selangor Youth Community (SAY), Duli Yang TeramatMulia (DYTM) Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Raja Muda Selangor.

In the spirit of the event, officers from LembagaLebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) as well as Polis Di Raja Malaysia (PDRM) were also present during the press conference as panelists.

The race categories were also announced, which include 90km, 45km (Fun Ride) and 45 km Team Time Trial (TTT).

For the 45km race, participants can register under the Men’s Under 19 category (from 17 – 19 years old), Men’s Elite Category, Men’s Master Category, Men’s Open Category, Women’s Under 19 Category (17 -19 years old) and Women’s Elite.

For the 90km race, participants can register under the Men’s Under 19 Category (from 17 – 19 years old), Men’s Elite Category, Men’s Master Category, Men’s Open Category, Women’s Under 19 Category (17 -19 years old) and Women’s Elite.

For the Team Time Trial (TTT) 45km, participants can register under Men’s Under 19 Category (from 17 – 19 years old), Men’s Elite Category, Men’s Master Category, Men’s Open Category, and Corporate Team.

Participants of all categories, i.e.  45km, 90km, and Team Time Trial (45km) will also be given the opportunity to participate in the King of the Mountain challenge where only one winner will be awarded the prize for each category.

Each participant will be entitled to an event jersey or T-shirt, goodie bag, personalized bib number, timing chip, bike tag, finisher medal and an online certificate which will include race completion timing.
